Overview

This retreat is designed for youth who have made (or are beginning to make) a decision to be an intentional disciple of Jesus Christ and are looking for an opportunity to grow more deeply in their life of prayer and discernment. We will spend time hearing talks about the spiritual life, silence, prayer, meeting with spiritual mentors, and having discussions about what it means to be holy.

Who Can Attend?

Provided the retreat is a good fit, the retreat is open to any youth in grades 8-12. If a student has not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation, we require a letter of recommendation from their Pastor stating that they are active in their parish and are not attending the retreat to fulfill a part of their Sacramental Preparation requirements.

Please carefully review the details of the retreat, it's purpose, and it's intended audience. Students should not attend if they are, in any way, being "required" to go.

What Do We Do On Retreat?

This retreat is unique in that it is specifically focused on bringing teens who are desiring to grow deeper in their faith life together. The aim is to help them grow in their faith and gain the insights and practices to live out their faith in their ordinary life!

Participants will meet and spend time with other teens who are desiring the same things as them. On this retreat, our talks will be focused on the teachings on the Holy Spirit and the role the Holy Spirit has in our pursuit of holiness in the ordinary life. We will hear talks, spend time in silence and prayer, participate in Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and more.

Is This Retreat Only Open To Catholics?

While the retreat is organized and run by Catholics and will include many teachings of the Catholic faith, individuals of other faith denominations are welcome to attend.

What Is Suscipe? Who Organizes This Retreat?

The retreat is being run by Suscipe is a non-profit organization based out of Sioux Falls, SD. The team includes trained adult mentors and spiritual directors. You can learn more about Suscipe at: https://suscipe.org/home.

Q. When the retreat start/end?
A. Check-In begins at 5:00pm on Friday and the retreat ends at 3:30pm on Sunday.

Q. What do participants need to bring?
A. A more complete packing list will be emailed prior to the retreat. In short, participants should bring sleeping gear as they will be sleeping on floors. They should also bring comfortable (layers) clothing and material that helps them to pray.

Q. Who organizes this retreat?
A. This retreat is organized by Suscipe, an apostolate based out of Sioux Falls. It is hosted by St. Mary's Parish in Dell Rapids. Adult volunteers from around the region assist on the retreat and serve as mentors. All adults are compliant with Diocesan Safe Environment requirements.
